Essays and House

25 open books thrown around the room. 2 packs of fags. Merlot to go with the studies... I've been trying to write my essay about buildings, icons and photography for a while now. And all i can say is "House finally shagged Cuddy".

Yes, finding myself in the miserable sense of finding the will power to do my homework i watched the last episode of House. Now maybe there's hope.

Maybe if House did it, i can too.

Obama must think that as well.

Continuing my Camera Obscura saga

I'm well aware that i haven't been writing too much in the blog these last weeks. Home and Paris took up most of my time. Apparently, it's been scientifically proven that real life is far more exciting than cyberspace. I tried it and it's true. How surprising. Regardless, i'll be putting up pictures of the holiday as we go along. First off, here are two of the camera obscura tests i did with the Canon (Wista images are still being processed and by the shit that exists right now with the deadlines, doesn't seem likely i'll finish them too soon) of two rooms. One is a mate of mine, Matei, who lives just off the old Radio building in Bucharest, in an interesting building.

I always wondered what happened if i were to have a tree in the way. Now i know. Looks interesting but i still can't decide on Black and White or Color.

The second one, that, until this point, is my favorite camera of all, is of my friend Irina's flat. I have been a constant pain in the neck, going over at hers at 8 a.m. and starting to duck tape the windows shut. Gotta admit she believed in my insanity and well things went according to plan.

The picture came out great and, if i'll ever publish a book or have an exhibition with them (i most likely will so let's not be so pessimistic about it) her room would be the cover. It's simple, beautiful and we both agreed it looks like a drive in cinema.

PS: there is no color management done yet, so i'm sorry if they look a tad dodgy. Working on that. But now i'd rather work on my essay. Well i'd rather not but it's not like i have an alternative.

Gotterdamerrung

The days went by and it's time to go once again. Few days back i went with a couple of mates to what will be my final second year project. I could have photographed my feet and passed. They need the money and they'll pass anyone regardless of how useless they are. But hey, if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.

We drove, for almost three hours i might add - in fairly off road conditions which Luiza didn't seem very fond of, to get to an abandoned monastery. Chiajna.

The building began in 1774 and was finished somewhere between 1786 and 1890. It was never "baptized" and thus it's believed to be cursed. Built in a neoclasic way, the arches stand a testament of the craftsmanship of people in that day. It's a beautiful building, 43 meters long, 18 meters wide and other measurements as well, with 1-2 meter thick walls. In it's time it was one of the most imposing buildings.

We photographed it from every angle and here's some sample shots done by my friend Luiza and myself. The "good" pictures were shot on 5x4 and are currently awaiting processing.

It's believed to house a gallery underneath (probably like any ruin, it must have galleries and a treasure. Pirates of the Carribean got everyone excited about this), which even our late dictator sought out. He brought drills and dug 30 foot deep holes to find the treasure himself. When that failed he decided to demolish the building but something distracted him, like a shiny coin perhaps, and he forgot.

The main tower collapsed during the 1977 earthquake (which reminds me, we had a 5,3 Richter scale earthquake yesterday. How cool is that?)but the building still stands tall. Uninterested and narrow minded politicians will let it, as they will the forts and most of the great monuments we have, be ravaged by time for some passive profit they might gain. Or just lack of interest and respect. Leaving this great place, i remembered that we live in a country where the blind lead the blind. Or the idiots lead bigger idiots in masses. Who have no idea of the beautiful city they live in.

The Night

I've come back, as always, with a thirst for the city. A thirst for intelligence and open minds that Britain repeatedly fails to provide. Not sure exactly why people are so narrow minded on that island but somehow being on this side of the puddle clearly pushes me forward in some respects.

Although sometimes the circus of post communism becomes embarrassingly formal and useless, the place has got far more potential than other places. Easter evening was nice, the whole time the girlfriend was here was nice, driving the Defender in the country was nice, and the new and unexpected are always excellent.Like the business proposal i got offered which i will probably not blog about because it's far too interesting.

Last night i was walking through the city. Brilliant night, not too cold, not too warm, just great for walking. I went someplace i haven'[t been in a long long while. And it was brilliant. The city calls to you, needs you to walk the streets and find yourself every now and again. Can't find myself in London. Too many people have, and it's become a boring clichee. Like romantic trips to Paris. Or romantic trips in general.

Bottom line there's no point in the post, just to show what Easter felt like through the image and ... well announce that i'm not yet dead, unfortunately for some

Expectancy

Here's a good song for today. Here's how we feel when there are few days until we're back home. Here's the calm before the storm, ladies and gentlemen.

London Riots

As promised here's the concerto (V for Vendetta was in my head all day. I could see it happen. I heard the detective say "this is what always happens when people without guns stand up to people with guns")
